Natural vs Artificial

I’m a hugely impressed with the amount of absolute bullshit food marketers are able to get away with. My pet peeves include the term ‘chemical free’, products that ‘contain organic’ (it just means they’re 99.9% NOT organic) and the whole GMO debate. I have sepreate posts on all of these topics that I’d encourage you to read – BE EDUCATED PEOPLE! Contains organic ingredients: like the organic horse shit we used in our marketing. But the number one, most-seen and most-irritating term is this one: “NOTHING ARTIFICIAL, EVER” – the slogan of Whole Foods. Nothing artificial is really a stupid thing to be marketing in the first place. ‘Natural’ products mean that all the ingredients come from a living organism. But as we all know, the production of living things is destroying the environment: from the mega-farms digging up the North Dakota landscape, to the cruelty of factory farming. […]

Women in Combat – Seriously America.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONxGxzNpZEA A lot of people (who shall remain nameless but here are the links) have been criticizing the move to allow women into combat roles in the US military. A bit of background Two years ago, the ban on women serving on the front lines in the US was lifted, and since that time, women [...]

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – healthier than Chipotle

Today I have been devastated by Chipotle’s decision to remove GMOs from it’s products. I gave endless praise to their amazing campaign against factory farming, as both an ethical campaign I could get behind, as well as a brilliant piece of marketing. I mean – that song! That cute face! Genius. But banning GMO’s is just offensive and irresponsible. […]

Peanut Butter Cup Diet: Day 7-10

Today was the day the video of the Peanut Butter Cup Diet went live. There was some interesting comments, like that I would loose muscle mass, or that I would end up gaining weight. Or worst of all – that I’d end up hating Reeses Beanut Butter Cups! Dear God, no. — Day 7 — […]

Peanut Butter Cup diet: Day 3, 4, 5, 6

I decided to take the ‘Peanut Butter Cup’ element more seriously today, and breakfasted on Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. Delicious! In other news, Melinda Wenner Moyer of Scientific American, and Dean Ornish at the New York Times have been having it out over the validity of the high protein diet. Based on the research, it turns out that eating protein helps contribute to long-term weight loss. So lucky I was well over my recommended protein levels yesterday! In my opinion, it’s a combination of public accountability (from keeping this record), a feeling of control (from keeping a close eye on what I’m actually eating – even if what I’m eating is total junk) and a feeling of empowerment (from being able to eat chocolate basically whenever I want) that makes dieting the easiest and therefore the most sustainable. More on the research in future posts. Diet: Day 3 […]

Diet Pepsi is ditching Aspartame

Pepsi is getting rid of aspartame – an artificial sweetener – from all its diet beverages, blaming consumer fears. This makes me both sad and angry, that the American public could be so stupid. I do! Aspartame has been repeatedly proved to be safe, and the groups that say it’s safe include the FDA, the US , the European Food Safety Authority, the UK Food Standards Agency, the Royal Society for Chemistry, and the American Cancer Society. […]

Peanut Butter Cup Diet: Day 1

I love carbs. We all love carbs. They're delicious, and thousands of generations of humans have evolved to hunt out and eat carbohydrate-laden foods. Moving to America has meant a lot of new, carb-laden foods to try - delicious new foods like Hush Puppies, peach cobbler, beef brisket, fried okra, country fries, shelf-stable waffles, jambalaya, and Old Bay. [...]

The Black Rhino is Extinct – blame the Chinese.

Disclaimer - I would urge you to please NOT read this post if you were otherwise having a good day. Because the plight of Rhinos and what their extinction says about humanity is extremely depressing.  Around 1900,  there were millions - literally millions of Rhinos roaming all over the savannas of Africa. There were Western Blacks, [...]
